There are places where one plays, and there are places one remembers having played. On the French Riviera and in Provence, a handful of addresses share that rare quality: the light, the acoustics, the silence between two musical phrases — everything conspires for the ceremony to become a suspended moment. Here are eight venues Alina has performed at, and the musical formation we believe suits each of them best.

This is not a ranking. It is a musician's reading of a territory we travel year-round, from Cap-Ferrat to Cassis, between engagements at the Toulon Opera and exceptional weddings.

01 · Alpes-Maritimes

Hôtel de la Chèvre d'Or — Èze

Four hundred metres above the Mediterranean, this Relais & Châteaux palace occupies the medieval village of Èze. One plays here on ancient stone, facing an endless horizon. The acoustics of the suspended terraces are remarkably clean: no parasitic echo, just air carrying sound toward the sea.

The music that suits it

Violin & cello duo

The intimacy of the place calls for a tight dialogue between two instruments. For the ceremony: Massenet's Méditation; for the cocktail: Piazzolla, in Yo-Yo Ma's reading.

02 · Alpes-Maritimes

Château Saint-Martin & Spa — Vence

Set within the remains of a 12th-century Templar commandry, Château Saint-Martin overlooks the bay of Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat from its centuries-old olive groves. A place for those who love pale stone and measure: everything is elegant without ever being ostentatious.

The music that suits it

String trio

Three voices fill the great terrace without amplification, preserving the nobility of the place. Bach for the entrance, Debussy for the cocktail.

03 · Alpes-Maritimes

Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild — Cap-Ferrat

Nine themed gardens, a pink Belle Époque villa, and the entire Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat peninsula at its feet. Probably the most theatrical of all Riviera venues. Everything is conceived as a stage — including the central alley, which almost demands a wedding processional.

The music that suits it

String quartet

The only format that matches the perspective. Pachelbel or Mendelssohn's march for the entrance; Vivaldi as backdrop for the cocktail.

04 · Alpes-Maritimes

Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc — Antibes

The myth. Since 1870, this palace on the Antibes peninsula has welcomed exceptional weddings, from royal families to American dynasties. The private pine grove and the Eden-Roc pavilion overlooking the sea call for music that is both sovereign and discreet — the whole art of performing in a venue that is already spectacular.

The music that suits it

String quartet or trio + solo violin

For very large receptions, we like to alternate the string quartet (cocktail in the pine grove) with a more mobile solo violin (drinks on the terrace). Broad repertoire: from baroque to Argentine tango.

05 · Alpes-Maritimes

Château de la Croix des Gardes — Cannes

On the hills above Cannes, this private twelve-hectare estate served as a setting for Hitchcock's To Catch a Thief. The great lawn facing the bay is one of the finest natural theatres on the Riviera: no neighbours, no acoustic constraints, silence as the only horizon.

The music that suits it

String trio or quartet

The vast space calls for the breadth of a quartet, but the bare décor (everything is in the perspective) also supports a more intimate trio for the ceremony.

06 · Principality of Monaco

Monte-Carlo Beach — Monaco

An iconic address of the Société des Bains de Mer, the Monte-Carlo Beach offers a coastal elegance — wood, linen, white light — that contrasts with the marble and gold of neighbouring palaces. This is the venue for a contemporary Riviera wedding, freer, where the music must reflect that assumed lightness.

The music that suits it

Solo electro-acoustic violin

Alina's electric violin with a discreet rhythm section works wonders at sunset. Repertoire: Einaudi, Ludovico Einaudi, covers of Coldplay or Sting arranged for strings.

07 · Alpes-de-Haute-Provence

Couvent des Minimes — Mane

Further inland, in Haute-Provence, this 17th-century convent converted into a boutique hotel offers an interior cloister of rare beauty. A detour well worth making: the cloister's acoustics are miraculous — stone returns each note with a natural decay, without any equipment.

The music that suits it

Solo violin or violin & piano duo

The cloister is too small for a quartet: one would lose the purity of the place. A solo violin, or a duo with the hotel's grand piano, fills the space in an almost sacred manner.

08 · Var

Castel Bay — Hyères

On the hills above Hyères, facing the Giens peninsula and the Golden Isles, Castel Bay is one of the most beautiful surprises in the Var. A contemporary villa opening onto the Mediterranean, terraced gardens, and an evening light that reminds you why this coast was invented for lovers. We have accompanied several ceremonies there, and each time the same obvious truth: everything is designed so that music can breathe.

The music that suits it

String trio or solo electro-acoustic violin

String trio for the outdoor ceremony — Bach, Massenet, a touch of Vivaldi — then switch to Alina's electric violin at sunset, for the cocktail facing the islands. One of the rare Var addresses where this dual register works seamlessly.

The venue sets the scene; music sets the soul

None of these venues calls for the same formation. That is precisely the difference between a wedding where music is laid over the décor, and a wedding where music inhabits every stone of it. If you are hesitating on a venue — or on the formation that will suit it — we will be happy to talk it through with you.
